The Goddess Myth

Why do we feel guilt with every decision we make as a Mom? Why is it that we worry about being judged? Have you ever felt so strongly that you wanted to give your child a pacifier, but that you shouldn't, because what if they experienced nipple confusion? Or, that you absolutely had to breastfeed your baby, even though your gut told you it wasn’t working for you?

In today’s episode, pelvic floor and women’s health expert Dr. Marcy Crouch and motherhood and mental health expert Alyson Hempsey talk about The Goddess Myth—a myth that affects every single Mom out there. This myth is the reason we feel like we have to live up to certain expectations, or feel judgment for decisions we make.

Dr. Marcy and Alyson discuss:

  • The Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) and why it’s not all that it's cracked up to be

  • Pressures to “do the right thing” by society, medical providers, and social media

  • How these pressures affect your physical and mental health

  • Why there is a stigma with almost every single choice we make (unmedicated vs medicated birth, breastfeeding vs formula feeding, paci or no paci, etc).

We are all walking on different paths as we journey through Matrescence, and just because our paths are different, doesn’t mean we can’t also stick together. We have your back, Mama!
